It is an American dream to be able to live in a home that was designed and created with your ideas. This is entirely possible to do if you have the help from the right contractor. Unfortunately, not all contractors are the same and you must be able to see which ones will hurt you and leave you stranded, and which ones will help you make your dream come true.
One of the best things to do is to always go with your gut feeling. If you do not trust the person, it is normally for a very good reason that we just can’t understand consciously. If you thing a contractor you are about to hire is a crook, then please go with your instinct and pass on. There are tons of great contractors out there, and you just need to spend the time finding them.
Something that people find very appealing is being able to attend an open house day or a builder display home. This lets you look around at some of the specifications you may want in your home. Spending these few extra hours can give you some more amazing ideas you have never thought of adding to your house. It may just be that last assurance you were looking for.
If your contractor wants to complete work on weekends and after hours, then you should definitely stay away. I’ve learned to do this because there are quite a few consequences that come with it, too many to list here. Do some research on it and you’ll see what I mean.
When everything is finished and is built, make sure you do a major run through of your home to make sure everything is working properly. That includes, making sure all outlets are working, there are no loose edges left, and all the water works. There are many other things to keep in mind, so go through each room one by one and do a thorough inspection.
