Age-defying Hair

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

All women and a growing number of men want shiny hair. This is because shiny hair is thought of as belonging to a healthy, vivacious person. The fact is that as we get older, men’s hair falls out and women’s hair becomes more brittle. So how can you have age-defying hair?

There are a few tricks of the trade, some of which are pretty obvious once you give them a bit of thought. The first and most vital tip is not to over wash your hair. Your head produces oil to protect your hair and it does that because it thinks that hair is vital to help it regulate the temperature of the brain.

OK, these days we can put a hat on or erect a parasol, but it takes the body a long time to mutate. The point is to not wash all the oil from your hair too frequently. You need to wash the dirt off your hair but not all the oil.

Consequently, rub the shampoo into your scalp and not into your hair. As the shampoo runs off your hair it will take the dirt off your hair with it but just some of the oil. This makes a big difference.

The tip above is the most important piece of advice because it applies to whichever shampoo you purchase, but the next tip applies to what shampoo to buy. Do not skimp on shampoo if you want lovely-looking hair.

Do you remember the days when you had to wash your hair, rinse it and then apply conditioner and then rinse again? Well those actually were the good old days as far as hair is concerned. These all-in-ones work on the principle that the conditioner will not work in the presence of oil and the shampoo will not activate if there is no oil.

This means that on the first wash, half the shampoo is wasted, but the shampoo has to scour your hair for the second wash (conditioner) to do its job. On the second wash the conditioner does its job, but the shampoo half goes down the drain having done nothing.

In other words, your cheap bottle of shampoo with conditioner costs two times as much as you paid for it, so why not buy separate shampoo and conditioner in the first place?

The combined shampoo and conditioner is a con because it makes you think that you are saving time and thereby getting something for nothing. You are not.

The best advice you can get for your hair is to purchase a mild shampoo without conditioner. By all means buy one that says that it is better suited to your type of hair if you like. Then do some research on your hair type and natural colour on the Net and make your own conditioner or purchase one.

Individuals used to use vinegar, beer, dandelions and all sorts of things and one that I have recently come across is Butterfly Pea. Do not get guiled by adverts and time saving if you really like your hair

How Office Stress Builds Up

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Office stress is a very common occurrence. Office stress comes about because of the pressures of the work, which is frequently not so simple to define, particularly in a small firm. In a big office, jobs are fairly clearly defined and everyone knows what they are responsible for.

In a small office though, the couple of members of staff often have to cover half-a-dozen or so different jobs and so office stress can build up. Office stress can build up quickly if the boss is unsympathetic or a member of a small office team goes off pregnant or sick whether a temporary replacement is employed or not.

Office stress is a very real phenomenon especially in a small business. For example, it is not uncommon for a company with $1 annual turnover to be managed by a staff of two – the office manager and a secretary. This means that the office manager has to be able to do every job and it is hoped that the secretary will be able to do most of them as well. This creates office stress.

The secretary-cum-assistant will need to understand filing, typing, word-processing, data entry for book-keeping software, how to read job sheets, time sheets and invoices. The secretary will also have to welcome visitors, but keep sales people at bay, while staying polite.

The secretary will also need to have decent phone manners and be able to answer enough questions to be able to shield the manager from time wasters and deal with relevant questions if the manager is not in. These jobs are difficult enough on their own, but office stress builds up if you find yourself trying to do three jobs at once and that is not uncommon.

You could be keying in time sheet data the manager has gone to visit site, when the phone rings with an enquirey and a potential client comes in asking for a quote. This is enough to make office stress soar.

The manager will also have to be able to carry out these tasks, but the office manager will also be responsible for management accounts, pay, job costing, pricing, writing letters and keeping up with the law as the Company Secretary, which means that he/she will need to know enough about employment law to give advice to the directors.

This leads to tremendous office stress. Besides all this, the office manager is usually responsible for paying and collecting taxes and keeping up with regulations and employment law. In these days of litigation and government claw backs, mistakes in any legal field are punished with costly fines or compensation claims. This degree of responsibility also just raises the level of office stress.

The difficulty is that office stress, like most types of stress, leads to tension and irritability and irritability can lead to a short fuse and flashes of temper, which just goes to worsen the situation and raise the degree of office stress another peg.

The degrees of office stress soar if an important piece of office equipment breaks down, because it is always just as you need it. Because it can take hours or even days to get it repaired, you are expected to be able to carry out minor repairs yourself. And then if the boss is an unsympathetic or just unlikeable person then the level of office stress can get even worse.

First Aid Training On Line: Is It Worthwhile?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Everybody ought to take a course on First Aid, because no one knows when they will be the first person at the scene of an accident. Every parent should know about fundamental First Aid because children are so accident-prone and everybody should know some First Aid in order to become a good citizen.

Fundamental First Aid is not difficult and you can easily learn how to deal with cuts, fractures, choking, burns, scalds, fainting and several other frequent predicaments.

However, many individuals simply do not have the time to do First Aid training. For this reason, many firms are now offering First Aid training on line. In fact, apart from learning how to cope with everyday physical problems, you can also learn how to do artificial resuscitation (CPR) and cope with heart attacks and drowning.

It is a fact that some people say that you can not learn First Aid on line or by reading a book, but others say that it is better to know something than nothing, that practicing on a mannequin is not much use and that most individuals will hopefully not have to use their First Aid training for years and so will have forgotten the finer points anyway. A happy medium might be to do First Aid training on line first of all and then take a test at a training centre

The fact is that you can learn numerous items of knowledge during First Aid training on line. You can learn about hygiene, how to decontaminate wounds, how to wrap a bandage and apply a tourniquet or a make-shift tourniquet.

You will also be taught how to treat a victim of burns and scalding, which you are much more likely to come across than a victim of heart attack or stroke.

There are many First Aid training courses on line but some are much better than others. As you know, computers are very powerful nowadays, so you should look for a course which makes full use of the Net and your computer’s graphics capabilities.

Computers can produce very life- like images, so do not purchase an old First Aid training package that consists of just thousands of words but no (interactive) images.

First Aid training on line is not costly and is maybe ideal for those who need a refresher course or a reference manual that they can pick up from time to time. It is also very helpful to have a quiz at the end of each chapter to ensure that you have understood what you have read.

Endeavour to find a package offering First Aid training on line that can be upgraded, so that you can purchase the modules that you want to learn. If you purchase First Aid training on line that includes chapters on industrial chemical burns, it is only padding for most people because you will never need to use them. Start with First Aid training on line that deals with the home, the garden and the car and move on from there, if you want to.

Why You Should Do A First Aid Course

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

Have you ever been the first individual on the scene of a bad accident? I have – a cyclist took a corner rather fast and too sharp. He came off his bike and was knocked unconscious. I went over, but I had no notion what to do. I felt sorry for him because I could not help and I was embarrassed for myself and still do, ten years later.

This is why everybody ought to know the fundamentals of First Aid. Everybody ought to know how to make an accident victim comfortable and how to resuscitate him or her if necessary until medical professionals arrive.

Everybody should know what to do in the event of accidents that cause such common events as choking, drowning, fractured limbs, heart attacks, burns, scalding and electric shock. Everyday accidents that not everybody sees every day luckily.

A basic First Aid course will teach the ‘Four P’s', although they might call it by a different name. The Four P’s are Preservation of life; Prevention of further injury; Promotion of recovery and the Protection of yourself.

This is gained by the application of ‘ABC’, which stands for ‘Airways, Breathing and Circulation’, which means that first you should check the nose, mouth and throat for blockages, then check for breathing and resuscitate if you have to, then stem any bleeding with bandages and tourniquets, if you have to.

Knowledge of CPR or artificial resuscitation is also desirable and it is also a major component of any First Aid course. Artificial resuscitation ought to be applied when the patient has stopped breathing or the heart has stopped beating. Some basic training is better before applying CPR, because it can harm a patient that does not require it.

Besides just wanting to be a decent citizen, there are several other reasons why you might like to take a First Aid course. Some jobs need that those who carry them out have been on a First Aid course. Professions that may need knowledge of First Aid include: supervisors of children like play school leaders, teachers, scout masters and youth club leaders.

Some jobs will more than likely supply their own First Aid course. This would probably be the case in the police force and in factories where specific industrial accidents might happen such as chemical burns.

If your First Aid is a bit ropey, you ought to consider taking a refresher First Aid course. You will find many First Aid courses once you start searching. Your local community centre may arrange a First Aid course from time to time, so might your local hospital, police force, ambulance and fire services.

If not, you will invariably find a First Aid course on line. If you take a First Aid course on line, you will probably have to attend an actual test of your information if you require a certificate, although all the study can be done at home, which will save time.

Before you go, here is another mnemonic to help you remember: ‘BBB’, breathing before bleeding, bleeding before bones’ or should that be the ’6 B’s'?

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania – For American Civil War Enthusiasts

Friday, April 29th, 2011

If you are at all interested in either Pennsylvania or American history, you will certainly have heard of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and the historic activities that took place there during the American Civil War. The three day long battle that took place there in July 1863 was cruel and bloody, but was hailed as a victory for the Unionist North.

Even so, one quick look in the Union Army burial ground in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on Cemetery Hill will persuade you that the victory came at a very high cost. The cost in human life and human suffering was gigantic on both sides. Later on in the same year, Abraham Lincoln gave a discourse which was to become famous throughout the world as the Gettysburg Address.

These days, the Gettysburg National Military Park is a tranquil place, but it acts as a moving reminder of the battle that was fought, the strategies employed, the heroism of the combatants and the readiness of military leaders to sacrifice the common soldier for political objectives.

If you go to the Gettysburg National Military Park, you would do well to begin your trip in the visitors’ centre. There you will be able to pick up books, pamphlets and leaflets to help you orientate yourself when you are on the battlefield, even if you are familiar with how and where the genuine battle was fought.

If you think that it would be too much for you to work things out for yourself or if you do not have much time, you could join one of the regular guided tours. If you are somewhere in between these two positions, you could first watch a film in the Cycloarma Center, where there are also historical items recovered from the battleground on the numerous excavations that have taken place over the nearly 150 years since the battle at Gettysburg took place. If you do not look around the museum before you go on to the battleground, you ought to look later.

If you are visiting Gettysburg to enlighten your children about that most important era of American history, you ought to first check out the special interest programmes available to 7-12 year olds in the warmer summer months. One programme allows children to enlist in the army of 1863 for an hour in order to get a sense for what it was like for soldiers of the day and what it was like for the children that helped them go into battle.

Another programme consists of a story-teller telling stories of what it was like to be a youngster in the days of the Civil War and the role that kids played both in the war and in civilian life back then.

Gettysburg is a spellbinding place to visit whether your family was involved in the battle there or not. Many of the combatants’ names and place names like Devil’s Den and Cemetery Hill may already be familiar to you and a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park will bring them back to life for you.

Age Related Norms Changing Society

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

The post Second World War years were an age of prosperity for many countries, but particularly the United States because their plant and infrastructure was intact and they earned a lot of money furnishing the products the remainder of the world required to rebuild their countries.

America was working flat-out in the Fifties and early Sixties and salaries and national prosperity kept increasing. A comparable feeling of goodwill was obvious in numerous other countries, but it was relief that the war was finished and gratefulness that their lives and cities were being rebuilt. This feeling of international joy and abundant employment also led to a boom in babies.

The so-called Baby Boomers were being born in their millions into a joyful time where money and employment was everywhere to be had. Education was seized upon not just by these youngsters but also by numerous returning service men and women, who wanted to take a bigger function in that bright new world that was stretching out before them.

With a better education and the mood of liberation that the ending of the War brought about, the Civil Rights Movement began to thrive particularly in America were non-Caucasians were still being segregated.

Although it was not called Apartheid, segregation is simply the English word for the same idea and masses of people were starting to find it intolerable and not just non-Whites either.

Individuals after the War were much less respectful of Authority, Governments and the Old Ruling Orders for a number of reasons. It was these people who got us all into wars in the first place and it was these people who were denying Civil Rights. Even if they did not condone segregation they did not do much to abolish it.

As Marx or Engels said, nobody gives up power, it has to be seized.

The people alive in the Fifties and Sixties were unlike any generation that had ever preceded them. They had money, education, a healthy disrespect for authority and a higher percentage of individuals who had been abroad than ever before in history.

Even if they were bearing weapons at the time. This was a heady cocktail and civil disobedience raged all over the world from America to Europe to Thailand in the Sixties and Seventies.

The new order articulated itself in music and rock and roll was its name. Never before had youngsters had their own music and they had the technology to reproduce it cheaply, the freedom to transmit it and the money to buy it. A whole new industry was started in the Fifties – record labels aimed at kids.

Now that the Baby Boomers are becoming old, they are breaking other norms too. Boomers are questioning why the are expected to feel old at sixty-five and stop work. At sixty-five nowadays people often still have twenty years left to live and if the past is anything to go by, they will not simply roll over and die on this one either.

How To Deal With The Symptoms Of Stress

Monday, April 25th, 2011

We are all under stress the majority of the time and a lot of people like to think that they understand stress and can use it to get a piece of work done to the best of their capacity, but do you actually know what the indications of stress are and what it can do to your body? When we are piling the stress onto ourselves, we merely assume that our bodies will adapt and get on with it, but is that really true?

The fact is that we all have our own point at which stress is reasonable. This is because stress can be emotional, physical and mental and if you exceed your capacity for any duration of time in any of these fields, you can cause temporary or even longer term harm, which could require professional medical help.

If you do not take steps to recover your equilibrium, you will soon find that the apposite function in your life will suffer: that is, your relationships will fail, your physical health will crumble or your ability to do your work in the right manner will vanish.

The physical manifestations of stress are aches and pains, including headaches, general fatigue and lethargy. Unchecked, these symptoms can lead to migraine, muscle tension and stiffness.

These major alterations to how your body operates can then result in other issues such as diarrhea or constipation, nausea and dizziness. These indications of stress, in turn, can lead to sleepless nights or insomnia.

When it gets this bad, individuals normally turn to medication, but medication can merely give temporary relief such as sleeping tablets. This can lead to dependence.

If the sufferer already has a weak heart, this combination of indications of stress can lead to chest pains, palpitations and erratic heart beat, which in turn can be precursors of heart disease. Please note that this chain of activities is not guaranteed.

Individuals are different and some doctors are better than others, but stress and heart disease have been shown to be linked.

Symptoms of stress can also show themselves in behavioural problems. These indications of stress frequently begin with insomnia or merely difficulty getting to sleep and waking up unrefreshed. However, feeling constantly dog-tired has a knock-on effect on our emotions – we tend to become more emotional, but often in a negative way. Often this means over-reacting, like snapping at someone who has asked a perfectly sensible question.

This sort of response can lead to the sufferer avoiding society. Self-pity, isolation, loss of job and depression can soon follow.

So, you have to learn how to get off that slippery slope, the downward coil of everyday stress. The place to begin is the mind. You have to learn how to recognize when ‘things are getting on top of you’ and learn how to unwind.

There are a number of successful techniques including meditation, breathing exercises, aromatherapy and playing soothing music in order to bring about a state of relaxation in your mind.

While you are learning to take the symptoms of stress head-on with your mind, take some time to pamper your body as well. There are also numerous ways of doing this, but well-liked methods are taking a sauna or having a massage or pedicure, facial or manicure. Having your hair done.

Physical exercise is a good reliever of stress too and it does not have to be rigorous. A thirty minute walk, twice a day is sufficient for most people, but you might get to like it and then it is the more the better.

Finally, you could take a good look at your diet. You do not have to go overboard, but do you drink too much coke, coffee or tea? Do you consume a great deal of junk food? Are you getting enough fruit?

Holistic Healing For Your Social Problems

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

We all face problems from time to time in our life, as we are not immune to this type of stagnant energy that comes around during a social problem. Sometimes they can be easy to fix, and sometimes they take a little bit more work.

So how does this social problem reflect on you? How do you see this playing out in your life? Do you have a game plan to correct this? Or do you need some help?

Problems are something that I think people actually can create on their own without even really realizing it. Now I think that’s probably a little bit of a confusing statement but think about it for a minute are they really problems?

What I mean by this is that many people blow things out of proportion when it comes to dealing with the social problem in your life. A problem is something that people see on a negative surface, but when a situation comes up is it always a problem?

I remember a saying that my friend once told me that everything is what it is. Now when I thought about that for a moment I looked at him and said what does that even mean?

It did take a few minutes for me to realize that he was right in every aspect. If you take everything and look at it from moment we are the ones that actually make the problems in our life. They are all to situations that we either turn into a positive or a negative area.

So when you’re facing a social problem in your life, is it really a problem? How are you going to deal with it? Is it something that you can just fix without actually having to create it into a problem?

With many different tools and techniques at your fingertips through complementary methods and alternative therapies, you can work through this social problem today. It is all about finding something that you feel drawn to in your own life that’s going to work for you.

I think probably one of the most understated ways to work on healing your social problem is through forgiveness issues. You might be thinking how is this a complementary alternative therapy, but it really has to deal with working on forgiveness from within a your soul level, as well is forgiving all of the issues that are attributed to this as well. This works on dealing with the releasing and purging in your life for a successful healing to begin.

You can also work with color therapy in your life to help heal your own social problem. Color therapy is something that can be used in many different areas for this type of work. It’s all about finding how the colors resonate within you for the healing process to begin.

You can also work with positive affirmations to help heal some of the issues that are surrounding the social problem. When you’re working with affirmations, you need to make sure that they are all in the present tense, positive, and stating a way to resolve the situation. This is one of the most important facts to work with.

Take time today and work with some of these new techniques to help focus, heal, and release all of the issues that are surrounding the social problem in your life.

Certified Healer, Nicole Lanning offers energy, spiritual, & holistic healing to clients around the world. Find out more information about Holistic Healing Minute & Healing Art Forms and her natural healing services today!
